Mail Art News #60: Oct 25, 2023

outgoing mail, T. Brown, Oct 2023

Ryosuke Cohen travelled to Italy.  Adam R. attended FluxFest NYC. I've started interviewing Ruud Janssen by email, though this is going to probably take another week or two to finish.

Thanks to Mail Art Worldwide for posting this, by way of Michael Leigh. Nick Drake commemorative artistamps published by Creative Thing Stampworks based in California. Side note: Nick Drake's mother, Molly Drake, was also talented.

Sabela Baña received mail art from of Giovanni Donaudi.

Richard Baudet posted work from Eloise Shelton-Mayo.

Guy Bleus is sharing early fax art.

Mail Art News media specialist Ariel Greenwood uncovered the following book at the local library: Halloween, Romantic Art and Customs of Yesteryear by Diane C. Arkins, providing us with a look at a selection of various commercially produced postcards and other Halloween decorations from the early 1900s.

I did receive two postcards from Mark Rossmiller, aka Moan Lisa, an early correspondent of mine when I was first starting out in the mail art business. Somehow he has been banned multiple times from IUOMA? I don't know the details. I know he does make some controversial statements sometimes. Ah whatever. Here are the postcards he sent:

And now I will share some scans of my outgoing mail. What I'm most excited about this week are the color prints below of the intergalactic postage stamps that I made with the help of MidJourney AI in July 2022. I think they're going to look pretty good on my outgoing mail.

The following postage stamps, for use on intergalactic mail, contain not only images of galaxies, stars, planets, and notable asteroids, but also advertisements for space-truckstops, transportation services, and mining companies. The language you will notice is not English, but an intergalactic script, agreed upon by humans as they met up with other humans and alien species living in the Milky Way and nearby galaxies.

And here's one from the archives. Yes that's right...You can win big in this ol' rat race. Herakles, the ancient father of metrosexuality, once said "Give me a big lever and I can move the world." And so it is even unto this day. Allow me, a distinguished professor, to give you that lever, in the form of a secret code I have discovered that enables you to race your rat..."

(artist and date unknown...sorry...)

Thanks for stopping by. If all of the -isms, etc in life get you down, hey...you ARE an artist, are you not?  Have fun and stay out of trouble.
